Wellspring is committed to the ongoing study of adolescent weight loss. Our research has been presented at major scientific meetings, including The Obesity Society meetings in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009. Since Wellspring Camps were established by leading scientific researchers, and are scientifically-driven, data is collected after each camp ends. Wellspring follows up with alumni through Wellspring’s unique Continuing Care Program and tracks campers’ weights once they return home.
Wellspring outcomes are virtually unprecedented in the study of weight loss. Wellspring campers achieve rapid and safe weight loss at camp – an average of about 4 lbs. per week. These results have been observed with a high level of consistency over the past 4 years, across various Wellspring Camps, working with thousands of kids, teens and young adults.

Campers also continue to lose weight after camp ends, with nearly 70% of campers continuing to lose weight at home, or at least maintaining the weight they have lost at camp.

If you are deciding between a four, six, or eight-week session, consider the following graph and reported weight loss. The average weekly weight loss at camp is more than 4 lbs; the average weight loss for a 4-week session is almost 20 lbs. and the average weight loss for an 8-week session is over 30 lbs.

8-week campers lose more weight while at Wellspring. Additionally, our studies show that 8-week campers lose more weight once they return home. As illustrated in the graph above, in a follow-up study of 2005 campers after 6-9 months post-camp, 4-week session campers had maintained an average weight loss of just over 20 lbs., while 8-week session campers had maintained an average weight loss of just under 35 lbs.
